Dance and movement therapy is "a type of psychotherapy that uses movement to develop a person's social, cognitive, emotional, and physical life" (the official definition of the American TDT Association).
Since ancient times, dance has been an integral part of all cultures, and in shamanism it was used for healing purposes. All over the world, he acted as a force that unites society. It can be said that ritual and other ceremonial dances serve the purpose of expressing the mental and spiritual health of these societies.

The basic principle of TDT is to understand that our body and mind are inseparable and have a constant mutual influence on each other. It is in psychosomatic unity that the basic essence of a person lies. Our experiences, problems, anxieties and conflicts do not go away, but unconsciously manifest themselves in our movements, or rather in muscle blocks, clamps and restrictions. Dance and movement therapy, using dance improvisation and structured choreography and emphasizing conscious movement, removes muscle blocks, helps us fully express and reveal our inner self, and opens up unlimited opportunities for self-discovery and finding a complete and harmonious personality.

"In addition to changing our state of mind, dancing can help us see how we relate to ourselves, to other people, and to the world at large. It is this conscious use of dance through the language of psychology that is dance-movement therapy”"
